How Does Helium Works in a Balloon?

Balloons are inflated with helium floats because the air outside is heavier than the gas inside the balloon. If gas is heavier than the other, its tendency of the lighter one is to float. Helium filled balloons have been compared to a bottle that is made of plastic filled with air placed in the water. Even if you place the bottle at the bottom of the water, it will still float because it has a lighter density than the density of the water. This only proves that gas inside the helium filled balloons is lighter than the air outside it. Thus, the helium balloons will slowly float on top of the heavier air. Its difference in density ratio is what made the balloons filled with helium float. Helium weighs lighter than the air that is why it will always drift in the air. As the air move at the bottom of the helium filled balloons, the more that it will drift up in the sky.

Helium filled balloons do not continuously floats in the air. If you see the helium balloon s float less, it means that some helium has escaped the balloon. More and more helium released from the helium filled balloons, the less that it will float because it already equals the density of the air outside it. The bigger the helium filled balloons, the more it can carry weight. It can even bring and carry several people or vehicles with it.

It has proven that the heavier a thing is the more it will fall. So anything that weighs lighter the tendency is to float up. Helium weighs 0.1785 grams per liter which is compared to air. That is why helium filled balloons will float in the air no matter how big it is!
